On September 19-22, 2025 volunteers from VI FERT made their way from Vancouver Island to Calgary, Alberta to meet with volunteers and ferrets from The Manitoba Ferret Association & No Kill Shelter Canada at the home of one of the members of Ferret Rescue and Education Society - FRES as part of OPERATION FERRET RELAY. A special thanks to the Ferret Association of Connecticut Inc. who helped get us involved in this special operation!

VI FERT is helping to rescue NINE retired male breeding ferrets and work towards finding them their new forever homes. The Manitoba Nine, as they're being called, are part of a larger group that has been surrendered and whom various ferret rescue organisations across Canada and the US have been working to find new homes for.

Preparations for this have been ongoing for almost a month as VI FERT volunteers schedule their vacation days and time off from work, in addition to setting up shelter arrangements for Nine new ferrets; not to mention looking after their own ferrets while they're away!

More information and updates can be found on VI FERT's Facebook page!
