15Page Updates

We have 15 ferrets available (or soon-to-be) for adoption.

We are still looking for families looking to be foster families.  Standing down from Covid has seen a large increase in the number of ferrets coming into our rescue.  We cover the vet bills and transport, you provide the loving household for them, until they find their furever home.

Started in Nov 2015, V.I. FERT has a simple mission and simple goals: provide care and find homes for surrendered ferrets as well as offer education and support services to the public regarding the treatment and care of ferrets.
We are an island wide network of volunteers who love ferrets. Members of V.I. FERT rescue ferrets as required, take in ferrets who are no longer wanted for various reasons and care for these ferrets in their homes, providing them with a safe place to live, love, attention, proper nutrition and veterinary care as required.

Whenever possible, ferrets are adopted out to caring, educated, FUREVER homes. The adoption process involves an application, interview and home inspection. Adoption fees vary depending on age, special needs and number of ferrets adopted.
If you are interested in ferrets, please be sure to follow our facebook page, and read Ferrets for Dummies by Kim Schilling, in our opinion, one of, if not the best book about ferret ownership.

If you wish to become a foster home, volunteer with fundraising, or support V.I. FERT in any way, please send us a message. We would love to have you join our team!

If you need to surrender your ferret(s), please fill out our Rehoming form and send it to

We are always happy to answer any of your questions and when you are ready to adopt a ferret... or two or three, send us a message with your email address and we will send you the appropriate forms and information.

Love to travel?  Not sure what to do with your fuzzy ones.
Good News.  VIFERT now offers ferret sitting by donation in select communities on Vancouver Island.  All fees come directly back into the rescue.
Ferret sitters are ferret foster parents that would love to, temporarily, increase the size of their business.

Please contact us to find out if it is available in your area and how much it might be.
